Richard was born and raised in Sydney, the third of five children.
Middle child syndrome seemed to formulate the skill set that he grew into adulthood with.
Richard's passion for problem solving and knowledge acquisition has led him on a constant trek through life and career.
At age 7, he showed he had a good understanding of things mechanical, building a 1949 BSA Bantam motorcycle (from a crate full of parts). Even making clutch medium from spent wine corks.
Then at 15 deciding to become a spring maker whilst Australian conscription laws were in full swing.
This was in the mistaken belief that springmakers don’t go to war as springs are needed for guns.
Other trade qualifications followed, Motor Mechanic, Auto Electrician, Boiler Maker & Electronic Technician.
It was about then Richard realised you didn’t need the ‘piece of paper’ to be proficient in any given field.
At age 50, Richard decided he would learn guitar & can now play adequately.
Though as is always the case, he couldn’t be satisfied only learning to play guitar so decided to make a guitar. This has turned into a few decent guitars & banjos.
Now in retirement the four G’s are what motivates him (Goodwife, Grandkids, Guitar & Golf ) though the order they are ranked is revised daily.
